Playlist Pt 2

Have you ever ran across a book out of the blue that was so good you didn't want it to end? Or have you ever discovered a band you didn't even know existed but whose music blew you away? I had that experience last Friday when I traipsied in to Main Street Records in Mt. Vernon, Il.

I've been living out of the area for awhile so I haven't been in to MSR in a long time. I did get to Mt. Vernon last Friday though and met Chris, a MSR music guru, who somehow knows more about music than I do. Hard for me to believe. But when I mentioned a few obscure (to the masses, anyway) artists I had on my playlist, (Nick Lowe, Rachel Sweet, Kate Bush, among others) Chris knew them all and could practically recite their life story. It was a lot of fun swapping stories and comparing notes with someone who had such a wide range of knowledge and perspective on all types of music. Very, very interesting.

Main Street Records is a legend in Southern Illinois, by the way. I can remember when MSR was actually located on Main Street (it's at 313 S. 10th St. now). Back in the seventies, besides all the good punk and heavy metal music it stocked, it also sold KSHE radio "stuff" and that was some of the coolest stuff to have. And you didn't have to go to Carbondale or St. Louis to get your other "accessories" either. If you're in the Mt Vernon area, definitely stop by Main Street Records and stock up on all the cool music and merchandise you've been missing out on because no one else has it. My standards are high. Main Street Records is one of the rare record stores Apple In My Mind would ever recommend.

Pt 2 of my Playlist Series
In this post I'm going to continue with three more tracks from Apple In My Mind's playlist . The first one is
The Real Me The Who
I went back to the doctor To get another shrink.
I sit and tell him about my weekend. But he never betrays what he thinks.
Can you see the real me, doctor?
I went back to my mother. I said, I'm crazy ma, help me.
She said, I know how it feels son,'Cause it runs in the family.
Can you see the real me, mother?
The cracks between the paving stones look like rivers of flowing veins.
Strange people who know me, peeping from behind every window pane.
The girl I used to love lives in this yellow house.
Yesterday she passed me by. She doesn't want to know me now.
Can you see the real me, can you?
I ended up with the preacher. Full of lies and hate.
I seemed to scare him a little, so he showed me to the golden gate.
Can you see the real me preacher?
Can you see the real me doctor?
Can you see the real me mother?
Can you see the real me?

Gimme Shelter Rolling Stones
Oh, a storm is threat'ning
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away
War, children, it's just a shot away It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away It's just a shot away
Ooh, see the fire is sweepin'
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way
War, children, it's just a shot away It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away It's just a shot away
Rape, murder! It's just a shot away It's just a shot away
Rape, murder! It's just a shot away It's just a shot away
Rape, murder! It's just a shot away It's just a shot away
The floods is threat'ning
My very life today
Gimme, gimme shelter Or I'm gonna fade away
War, children, it's just a shot away It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away It's just a shot away It's just a shot away
I tell you love, sister, it's just a kiss away It's just a kiss away It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away It's just a kiss away Kiss away, kiss away

Life During Wartime Talking Heads

Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons packed up and ready to go.

Heard of some gravesites, out by the highway A place where nobody knows.

The sound of gunfire, off in the distance I'm getting used to it now.

Lived in a brownstone, lived in the ghetto. I've lived all over this town.

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco. This ain't no fooling around.

No time for dancing, or lovey dovey. I ain't got time for that now.

Transmit the message, to the receiver. Hope for an answer some day.

I got three passports, couple of visas. Don't even know my real name.

High on a hillside, trucks are loading. Everything's ready to roll.

I sleep in the daytime, I work in the nightime. I might not ever get home.

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco. this ain't no fooling around.

This ain't no mudd club, or C. B. G. B. I ain't got time for that now.

Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit? Heard about Pittsburgh, P. A.?

You oughta know not to stand by the window. Somebody might see you up there.

I got some groceries, some peanut butter to last a couple of days.

But I ain't got no speakers, ain't got no headphones, ain't got no records to play.

Why stay in college? Why go to night school? Gonna be different this time?

Can't write a letter, can't send a postcard. I can't write nothing at all.

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco. This ain't no fooling around.

I'd love you hold you, I'd like to kiss you. I ain't got no time for that now.

Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock. We blended in with the crowd.

We got computers, we're tapping phone lines.I know that ain't allowed.

We dress like students, we dress like housewives.Or in a suit and a tie.

I changed my hairstyle so many times now. Don't know what I look like!

You make me shiver, I feel so tender. We make a pretty good team.

Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving. You ought to get you some sleep.

Get you instructions, follow directions. Then you should change your address.

Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day. Whatever you think is best.

Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks? They won't help me survive.

My chest is aching, burns like a furnace. The burning keeps me alive.

Try to stay healthy, physical fitness. Don't want to catch no disease.

Try to be careful, don't take no chances. You better watch what you say.

The seventies hairstyles will always be remembered as the blow drier was invented by Corsair during that time. The 1970s era has set a revolutionary hair fashion among ladies and gentlemen. It was the time when freedom of expression was so high in terms of hair styling. Women tend to have a very styled braids or shiny hairstyles with different ornaments attached to the hair. The bobs and bangs were in and headbands were so popular.Check out http://www.seventieshairstyles.net for more info.
